As a response to the “RESOLUTION MEPC 197(62)”(MEPC 197(62)) adopted on 15 July 2011, Tero Marine AS have added functions to TM Master v2 to enable users to keep track of their inventory of hazardous materials.
The objectives of the Inventory are to provide ship-specific information on the actual Hazardous Materials present on board, in order to protect health and safety and to prevent environmental pollution at Ship Recycling Facilities. This information will be used by the Ship Recycling Facilities in order to decide how to manage the types and amounts of materials identified in the Inventory of Hazardous Materials (regulation 9). The [Hazardous Materials] module in TM Master v2 allows you to link hazardous material to a component, location or item (spare part) and keep account on the total amounts of each individual substance found onboard. Keeping track of the substances enables you to create an up to date detailed Inventory of hazardous material report. Required as part of the “Clean Ship Class” requirements.
The “Hazardous Material” module view
The Hazardous Material module is found under the [Inventory] menu group. The view is divided into three windows. As indicated in the image below.

- The Substance type list.
This list of substance types is predefined in the Resolution MEPC 197 and it contains the Hazardous Materials types that may be found on board a ship and is referred to as “Appendix 1” The different materials are grouped, depending on its properties, into four different tables named A, B , C and D.
Table A comprises the materials listed in appendix 1 of the Convention; Table B comprises the materials listed in appendix 2 of the Convention. Table C (Potentially hazardous items) comprises items which are potentially hazardous to the environment and human health at Ship Recycling Facilities; and Table D (Regular Consumable Goods potentially containing Hazardous Materials) comprises goods which are not integral to a ship and are unlikely to be dismantled or treated at a Ship Recycling Facility.

- Substance list
In this view all the registered substances of the selected material type in the substance type list are shown. By selecting the “All Items” in the Substance type list all registered substances will be listed in this view. Selecting one particular substance type in the tree view (1) only substances of that the selected type is shown in this grid.
- Occurrence list
By selecting a substance in the substance list, all components, items (spare parts) or locations registered containing this substance will be listed in this grid. If multiple substances are selected in the “substance list” grid (2), all locations/components/items containing the selected substances are shown in this grid.
Adding substances to the Substance list.
The first you will need to is to add one or more substance/hazardous material to the substance list.
How to add a hazardous material to the substance list?
- Click [Inventory] à [Hazardous Materials]
- Click [New] button found in the top menu on the left hand side.
- Fill in the substance details:
- CAS NO: Enter the CAS NO for the new substance. Only valid CAS Numbers are accepted. This is a mandatory field. If you do not know the CAS No for the substance you are about to enter, or it does not have a CAS NO, type a single “-“(dash) instead.

- Substance Name: Enter the substance name
- Substance type: Select the correct substance type by clicking the […] button, and then selecting the correct type in a list. This list is the same found in the substance type view (1). Each substance type has its own set of substance type details. The substance type details will be displayed in the dark grey fields. This information can’t be edited, and is defined by the RESOLUTION MEPC 197.

- UOM: Select the appropriate unit of measure (UOM) for the substance. There is only 2 types of UOM’s available: kg (Kilogram) and m3 (Cubic Meter). This limitation is set by the IMO resolution. The only exception is when adding items to belonging in Table D – D1 Domestic and accommodation appliances, for these you can also use the UOM “pcs”
The standard unit for approximate quantity of solid Hazardous Materials should be kg. If the Hazardous Materials are liquids or gases, the standard unit should be either m3 or kg. Source: MEPC 62/24 Annex 3, page 21

Remark: For any additional remarks regarding the substance. Adding substance aliases here will allow you to filter or search in the substance list for alternative names for the substance. When adding items belonging to the Table D – “D1 Domestic and accommodation appliances” you should include any known substances found within the appliances in the remark field.
Linking substances to the TM Master v2 entities
Once you have recorded substances to the system, you will need to link them to the TM Master v2 entities that contain them. The entities you may link a substance to are components, item (spares & catalog items) and Locations.
How to link a hazardous material to a component?
- Click [Inventory] -> [Hazardous Materials]
- Select the substance, from the substance list (2) , you want to link to a component
- Click [Add Substance to component]
- Select the component you wish to add the substance to from the component list.
- Fill in the following details:
- Quantity: The approximated quantity of the substance found in the component.
Inventory Sub Part: Select the sub part of the IHM the substance is to be listed. Substances linked to a component will be included in Part I of the Inventory.
Part I: Materials contained in ship structure or equipment. Part I, has 3 sub parts.
PART 1-1 Paints and coating systems containing materials listed in Table A and Table B
PART 1-2 Equipment and machinery containing materials listed in Table A and Table B
PART 1-3 Structure and hull containing materials listed in Table A and Table B
Parts where used: Describe if necessary where the substance is located or its function. - Remark: Add a remark if necessary
- Click [Save & Close]

How to link a hazardous material to an item (Spares & Catalog items)?
- Click [Inventory] -> [Hazardous Materials]
- Select the substance, from the substance list (2) , you want to link to a spare part
- Click [Add Substance to spare part]
- Select the spare part you wish to add the substance to from the spare part list.
- Fill in the following details:
Quantity: The approximated quantity of the substance found in one individual spare part.
Inventory Sub Part: Select the sub part of the IHM the substance is to be listed in.
Substances linked to a spare part will be included in Part III, of the Inventory.
Part III: Stores, Part III for spares have only one sub part

- Click [Inventory] -> [Hazardous Materials]
- Select the substance, from the substance list (2) , you want to link to a spare part
- Click [Add Substance to location]
- Select the location you wish to add the substance to from the location list.
- Fill in the following details:
Quantity: The approximated quantity of the substance found on the location
Inventory Sub Part: Select the sub part of the IHM the substance is to be listed in.
The selections available in the inventory sub part “dropdown” may differ. Dependent on which table the substance type belongs to and the substance type properties.
Parts where used: Describe if necessary where the substance is located or its function.
Remark: Add a remark if necessary - Click [Save & Close]

Multi Select options
Multi select is also an option for all the “How to link.” Instructions described above. You will be able to specify the same details that are required as described in the steps above, but instead of working in a form you can edit it in a grid. (Ref image below) Columns marked “blue” can be edited. There are three options to the multi select approach.
When selecting more than one component to link a substance to.
Option 1: By selecting more than one substance in step 2, you can link more than one substance at the time to one component, item or location in one operation
Option 2: By selecting more than one component, item or location in step 4, you will be able to link the substance to more than one component, item or location in one operation.
Option 3: By selecting more than one substance in step 2 and more than one component, item or location in step 4, a grid with all the possible combinations is presented. Tip! Using the “Group” grid tool on the “component name”, “item name” or “location name” column will make the registration even easier.
